Lambada Strawberry, or Lambada strawberry, was bred in 1982 by crossing the hybrid forms IVT-76013 (Silvetta x Holiday and IVT-74112 (Karina x Primella). Then the most large-fruited line was developed, which has become very popular and in demand among gardeners in our country. The homeland of this kind of garden strawberry is the Netherlands.

Grade characteristics

Strawberries, or garden strawberries, varieties "Lambada" easily tolerates thickened plantings and forms vigorous, fairly open bushes. The leaves are bright green in color, very large. As a rule, a small number of varieties of garden strawberries has such a bright leafing.

The variety is non-maintenance, early ripening. The average yield is about 1-2 kg per adult plant. The berries are large, cone-shaped, with a sufficient degree of density, pronounced red color. The average weight of one marketable berry exceeds 20 g. The taste of ripe berries is very good. The taste is sweet, with the presence of a bright strawberry aroma. Strawberry pulp has a very pleasant light red tint. Achene is yellow, slightly pressed into the pulp.

The variety is characterized by excellent winter hardiness and comprehensive resistance to most fungal diseases. The purpose of the berries is universal. Judging by the description given by the originator of the variety, low rates of resistance to powdery mildew are considered to be disadvantages. In central Russia, the main fruiting period begins on the 10th of May and lasts until the 10th of June.

How to plant strawberries

"Lambada Strawberry" needs to be grown in areas with an average acidity of about 5-6.5 pH. It is recommended to dig the soil deep enough and enrich it with fertilizers.

The variety is recommended to propagate by rooting outlets in the autumn. The abundant formation of mustaches and a high rate of their productivity make self-propagation problem-free. Immediately before planting, it is advisable to stand the strawberry rosettes for about 15 minutes in a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate, and then rinse with running water.

It is easy enough to propagate the variety of garden strawberries “Lambada” from seed material. Such plants are healthier. The seeds of garden strawberries are hard-to-match, so they require preplant planting. Stratification of strawberry seeds lasts 30 days. Planting strawberry seeds is carried out most often in January or February. Sowing should be covered with plexiglass or film. After emergence, seedlings are dived. Plants are planted in open ground after hardening procedures.

  • for two years, strawberry bushes select a significant part of the minerals from the soil, so planting must be fed with fertilizers;
  • for each bush, depending on the size and age of the plant, it is required to make 0.5-1 l of liquid top dressing;
  • young bushes can be fed with a specially prepared solution based on mullein and ammonium;
  • if in early summer the leaves on the bushes are light green in color, then in June it is necessary to supplement the irrigation of strawberry bushes with fertilizing with liquid nitrogen fertilizers.

After the main part of the strawberry bushes has bred, it is necessary to cut off all the old or diseased leaves on the plants and feed the strawberries with complex mineral or organic fertilizers. Immediately after pruning, it is recommended to process the strawberries with a 2% solution of Bordeaux fluid, which will save the bushes from plant parasites. To protect against frosts, shelter is planted with spruce branches.

Most often, reviews of gardeners classify this variety as preferred for cultivation in a personal garden and garden plot. "Lambada" has a moderate productivity, but at the same time there is a high percentage yield of large and varietal, very tasty berries. The variety is not sufficiently recumbent, so it is advisable to process the berries immediately after collection. By density, they are very suitable for cooking jam.

This variety has proven itself in a tight planting, which allows you to optimize the yield obtained from a unit of planting area. Strawberry bushes are located in the correct vertical position and are quite open, which facilitates the care of plants and harvesting. At high humidity levels, it is very important to prevent powdery mildew. You can cope with the problem by normalizing watering the soil or using fungicides. Experienced gardeners recommend using a weak solution of boric acid when watering before flowering and after harvesting. An excellent result is obtained by the use of sprayings with a copper-soap emulsion or colloidal sulfur. Gardeners grade "Lambada" is rated as one of the most unpretentious, so there are no special difficulties in cultivation even for beginner gardeners.
