Pumpkin "Candy" refers to table large-fruited, mid-ripening varieties, popular in home gardening. The description of the variety involves the ripening of externally attractive fruits with very tasty and sweet pulp.

Description and characteristics of the variety

The wattled pumpkin of the Variety Sweet enough variety in our country forms a plant of medium length, up to one and a half meters. The fruits are very attractive, segmented, rounded, red-orange in color. The average weight of one fetus is 1.9−2.7 kg. The pulp is dark orange, juicy and fairly dense, sweet in taste. Indicators of sugar content of pulp reach 7-8%. Ripe pulp contains a significant amount of ascorbic acid and carotene.

The variety is characterized as cold-resistant and very high-yielding, for table use. The pulp is used in the preparation of side dishes, first courses and hot snacks, and also has proven itself as a raw material for the preparation of juices and drying. Before planting pumpkins, a small amount of compost or rotted manure with wood ash and superphosphate should be added to each well.

Pumpkin "Sweetie": variety description

In regions with different soil and climatic conditions, the timing of pumpkin planting is very different. In household plots located in the middle lane of our country and in the more northern regions, germinated seeds of such a crop as pumpkin should be planted in the cotyledon leaf phase no earlier than the last decade of May or in the first decade of June. The best option is to use covering material. After the threat of late spring frosts at night passes, it is recommended to remove the shelter from the ridges.

When growing pumpkins using seedlings, it is recommended to sow seed material in the last decade of April. Seedlings are recommended to be watered exclusively with warm water, the temperature of which is at least 20-24 ° C. Already well grown seedlings should be planted in open ground at the age of one month, approximately in late May. Planted pumpkin seedlings should also be covered with garden wrap.

Pumpkin cultivars "Candy" should be harvested in terms that can vary significantly depending on the soil and climatic conditions characteristic of the region where this vegetable crop is grown. Pumpkin of this variety belongs to the new high-yielding, portioned, especially sweet, mid-ripening varieties. Therefore, from the period of mass seedlings to the stage of harvesting, it takes about 115−138 days.

To store the variety "Sweetie", the fruits are taken whole, strong, without cracks. Crops are sorted by size and quality. When cutting a pumpkin from a whip, a stalk of about 6-10 cm (depending on size) is left on it, the fruits are in no way washed and protected from technical damage. In case of frost, the pumpkins in the garden are covered with insulating material or mulched with straw.

The fruits intended for storage must be folded in one layer on a soft surface, without touching each other. It is necessary to store the harvested crop at a temperature of 8−10 ° C with an optimum humidity of 70−80%. Storage of pumpkins in the refrigerator is allowed. The shelf life of correctly completed blanks is approximately 8-10 months.

Pumpkin called "Sweetie", according to gardeners, refers to unpretentious and productive varieties. Each plant forms at least five fruits with a dark red bark. At one stage of ripening, a pumpkin of this variety is outwardly similar to a ripening watermelon.

Pumpkin: variety selection

The flesh is medium in thickness, crispy and dense, but juicy enough. The flavoring qualities of ripened fruits are excellent, so the pumpkin of this variety is used universally. The pulp is tasty in its raw form, but, unfortunately, even in fully ripened fruits, it is rarely possible to observe the presence of high-quality seeds, so collecting them for the purpose of further planting is almost impossible.
